While I was browsing around the gift shop at Bath, looking for souvenirs (I eventually settled on a wine goblet), I stumbled upon this: a child's biography of Julius Caesar. Now, I realize we all want our children to grow up to achieve something...but is this really the type of bedtime story we want them to be raised on?!?"Joe, you know you have friends? Well when Caesar was your age, all his friends, the populares, were murdered by a bad man named Sulla."
"Look Jimmy, that's Julius Caesar's men routing a Gallic Army and enslaving their women and children."
"He's not going for a swim, Molly, he's crossing the Rubicon to destroy his political enemies."
"That's right, Susie, Caesar and his friend Cleopatra are hugging, yes, hugging. You say you want to know why they aren't wearing clothes? Oh. uh...."
"No Michael, Caesar didn't make a mess with his finger paints, he's bleeding to death on the Senate floor after being stabbed 23 times."
It's always reassuring to know that our children have good role models to help them become stable, contributing members of society.
